Bio
Kylie Heidenheimer’s abstract paintings have been described as “repositories of matter and metaphors for space”. Born in Gainesville, Florida, she grew up in St. Louis. The light and color in the paintings of Rembrandt and Morris Louis at the art museum there became objects of lifelong captivation. While an art restoration intern in Berlin in 1979, she chose to make painting her sole commitment. Heidenheimer’s solo exhibition RIFT, took place in September 2009 at 532 Gallery Thomas Jaeckel in New York City. Another solo show BURSTS, ATMOSPHERE AND STASIS, was at Ohio Northern University in 2008 (catalog available) and at Columbia University’s Italian Academy in 2007. Heidenheimer has lived and worked in New York City since 1983. She earned an MFA from Hunter College, and has attended artist residencies at Blue Mountain Center, The Millay Colony, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Byrdcliffe Artist’s Colony and the Anderson Center. She’s participated in group exhibitions and flat file programs at Pierogi, Sideshow Gallery, Condeso/ Lawler Gallery and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in New York as well as many other venues nationally. Heidenheimer has a BFA from Washington University.
