Curated by Mary Flinn, Art School of Columbia County, 1198 Route 21C, Harlemville, NY

September 7 - October 18, 2024; contact artschoolofcolumbiacounty@gmail.com or 518-672-7140 to visit Mon-Thurs/ weekends

Meet Mary Flinn and additional artists in the show at the school on Sunday, 9/29, 1-4pm.

Flinn says works in exhibition “relate to the dropping away of thoughts, opinions and judgements into a moment of giving and receiving in relation to the artwork in front of you. What kind of images come into being when we let go of our preconceived idea and open up to the unfolding of the muse.  Each of these seasoned painters have their own unique experience in their relationship with painting, and in turn have created unique works of art to share. Enjoy the unfolding with the muse in each artwork”.

THE SUMMER DISASTER 2 SHOW

Real artists living in a time of natural disaster, social rage, and calamity!!

A WALL-TO-WALL DISASTER EXHIBITION, August 3 – September 8, 2024

Private Public Gallery, 530 Columbia Street, Hudson, NY 12534

Hours: Saturday and Sunday, 12 – 5PM and by appointment 212-286-0075

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Private Public Gallery in Hudson, New York presents compelling works by 26 artists in The Summer Disaster 2 Show. Curated by gallery owner/ director Christopher Freeman, the exhibition includes figurative and abstract painting as well as photography, sculpture, and drawing. Reprising last year's well-received The Summer Disaster Show, the thematically wide-ranging and materially diverse offerings are loosely bound by a foil of popular movie culture and an undertow of dread. Eschewing the typically laid-back summer group show vibe, The Summer Disaster 2 Show bluntly yet playfully acknowledges the exceptionally anxious mood of the summer of 2024.

With its clean lines, high ceilings, and open plan, Private Public Gallery is one of the premier exhibition venues in the Hudson Valley. Prior gallery exhibitions have been reviewed by Two Coats of Paint and Chronogram.

Participating artists: Janet Biggs, Richard Bosman, James Casebere, Noa Charuvi, Sharon Core, Deborah Dancy, Jim Denney, Heide Fasnacht, Bruce Gagnier, Kylie Heidenheimer, Marvin Heiferman, Carter Hodgkin, Melora Kuhn, Stephen Maine, Kingsley Parker, Haneline Rogeburg, Marcy Rosewater, Alexander Ross, Michael St. John, Howard Schwartzberg, Marc Swanson, Beth Davila Waldman, Oliver Wasow, William Wegman, Kit White and Viktor Witkowski

Rotating / Axis

Furnace Art on Paper Archive, Falls Village, CT

November 11, 2022 - April 15, 2023

Furnace Art on Paper Archive

Winter Hours: Saturdays, 11AM - 4PM

Extended to April 15

.

Earth's tilted axis causes the seasons.

“Earth has seasons because our planet’s axis of rotation is tilted at an angle of 23.5 degrees relative to our orbital plane, that is, the plane of Earth’s orbit around the sun”.*

Rotating / Axis is the turning point to longer nights and shortened days, cooler temperatures, and wintry weather, with shifts in darkness and light.

The work selected from the Furnace archives reflects and meditates on change and opposites. As we move from one season to the next, we are moving through space and time. We change with the seasons.

Join us in taking a moment to celebrate the turning of our planet!
